We are extremely privileged to have Chef Dean Jones heading up our team at Fothergill island. In addition to heading up the entire team as Island Manager, Dean also directs the culinary and hospitality experience directly.
Directed by Dean, we at Fothergill pride ourselves on a unique and bespoke personalised service and this includes your culinary preferences and needs. All meals are freshly prepared by our World Class Team, in the middle of the African bush and served in a number of locations within the camp environs, the banks of Lake Kariba and within Matusadona National Park.
Prepare your morning coffee from the comfort of your suite with a tea and filter coffee station that is accompanied by the finest coffees and teas that have been personally selected by Dean Jones. The superb morning aroma combined with the excitement of what sightings the African bush might offer from the comfort of your suite is enough to get anyone up and about.
Before departing for your morning game activity enjoy either a scrumptious full English or continental breakfast and upon your return to camp, lunch is normally served under the gazebo out on the deck of the main area overlooking the Lake and Flood Plains. The menu includes a selection of meat and vegetarian dishes, salads and freshly baked breads – all made here in the middle of the bush.
Should you still feel hungry throughout the day, a snack menu is always available. Enjoy with a delicious cup of coffee or a refreshing ice tea before setting off for your afternoon activity.
Your afternoon activity normally ends with classic sundowner cocktails and canapés at a specially selected spot or on the boat. There are few things as spectacular as the sight of an African sunset on Lake Kariba with the iconic drowned forest as a backdrop – especially if you are also lucky enough to hear the call of a fish eagle, as yet another day comes to an end.
Return to the camp for pre-dinner drinks around the bar and fire pit as you discuss the sightings and catches of the day with friends and family. Celebrating a special occasion? We can arrange a romantic private dinner on your suite deck, by the pool area or eco pond.
Dinner might include a choice of starters such as twice baked cheese soufflé, apple & rocket salad or potato and leek soup followed by grilled beef fillet, vegetable barley, asparagus, red wine sauce or pan-fried kingklip, crushed new potatoes and greens. How could anyone resist mango panna cotta with a pineapple salsa for desert or maybe you would simply prefer a fruit or cheese platter?
